TIGER WOODS KEEPS GETTING INJURED BECAUSE OF HIS STRENGTHS AS A GOLFER. What do I mean?

He has an amazing golf technique and good enough posture and incredible strength.

BUT IT IS THESE STRENGTHS THAT ARE GETTING HIM IN TROUBLE. Why?

Because when he swings the club to drive or putt, he is so tense and compressed all the way down his back, that as he twists or spirals his body to hit the ball, he is flattening the discs of his back and compressing all of the joints throughout his body. This is why he keeps hurting his back, and why he hurt his knee a few years ago.

TIGER WOODS IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF LOOKING GOOD AND FEELING BAD, AND NOW NOT PLAYING SO GOOD. What is the solution?

THE SOLUTION TO TIGER WOODS’ PHYSICAL PROBLEMS IS FOR HIM TO LEARN TO SWING THE CLUB WITHOUT EXCESS TENSION AND COMPRESSION THROUGHOUT HIS BODY.

He can truly hit the ball as far and as accurately as he wants without causing damage to his joints. What this means is he needs to learn to swing the club by NOT decompressing all of his joints on the swing.

Simply stated, it means he needs to learn to swing the club with a lengthening back and neck, which takes the pressure off his spinal discs as he swings the club with extraordinary power.

It also means that when he putts, he needs to learn to putt with accuracy with a lengthening spine and neck, so that he doesn’t use internal tension and compression to be accurate.

What do I mean by internal compression? A golfer can have great posture and alignment and technique on the outside, but be so tense, that he does damage to his spinal disks and joints throughout his whole body every time he or she swings the club.

This is what makes the Alexander Technique such an extraordinary movement refining teaching modality for dealing with specialized intense activities, like golf, that demand accuracy when being played.

When I was pursuing a career as a concert guitarist, I was practicing the guitar six hours a day and damaging my left wrist causing carpal tunnel syndrome. I was attempting to create a clean performance as I pressed the strings down to the neck of the guitar.

What I learned from an Alexander Technique teacher is how to sit for hours playing the guitar and be posturally balanced from head to toe. I also learned to press the strings cleanly to the neck WITHOUT immobilizing my wrist, elbow, and shoulder.

This meant I generated the muscular power to play the guitar without compressing my joints or becoming rigid and immobile, when I played a difficult cord.

I also learned to do the same when I weightlifted. I’ve been an avid weightlifter most of my life, and I know the tension I caused in my body as I lifted, really caused my whole body to hunker down and compress and strain all of my joints.

What I learned from an Alexander Technique teacher was how to weightlift without tensing before I lifted, and to arc the weights when I did biceps curls, rather than locking my elbows before I curled the weight.

This is what Tiger Woods is doing. What do I mean?

RIGHT BEFORE TIGER WOODS DRIVES THE BALL OR PUTTS, HE ESTABLISHES HIS POSTURE AND GOLF TECHNIQUE BY IMMOBILIZING HIS BODY, AND THEN HE SWINGS OR MOVES THE CLUB.

IT IS TIME FOR TIGER WOODS TO LEARN TO PLAY GOLF WITHOUT IMMOBILIZING, OR “SETTING” HIS BODY BEFORE HE DRIVES OR SWINGS.

TIGER WOODS HAS NO CHOICE! WHY?

BECAUSE OF HIS INJURIES, IF HE DOES NOT LEARN TO TRUST HIS ALREADY AMAZING AND GOOD ENOUGH GOLF TECHNIQUE, AND TO PLAY WITHOUT A DECOMPRESSED BACK AND BODY, HE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO BE THE BEST AGAIN AND PLAY WITHOUT PAIN.
